I came across this and i think it's a worthy cause to support. Whale sharks belong in the sea, not Sentosa.
Spring!
This was our dinner on Monday. 东北菜. We've been to this place previously when we went to the Botanical Gardens and we quite liked it. That's 小锅羊肉 which is not that appealing to me and that is 地三鲜, consisting of potatoes, brinjals and green peppers. Oily but yummy. And it's rather hard to distinguish between the potatoes and brinjals.
And this's the nicest food that i've eaten here, though it's not a local dish. 蛋黄南瓜. Heavenly taste. And everyone that i've talked to about this dish agrees that it's very nice. ;P
And this's 哈红肠, sausages that taste better than they look.
We had a surprise treat that night from 恒丰 who brought us bbq-ed drumsticks. Full of flavour.
This was bought at the hypermart near the campus here yesterday. 凉粉. We get to pick these cold dish and the salesperson will mix it in a bowl with spices and peanuts, machiam like rojak. But i had to admit it was pretty disappointing.
The one picked up by the wooden chopsticks looked like a capsule that will burst and fill the whole mouth with whatever is inside but it's not the case. It's just bee hoon in this size...
And this is one very weird drink that only Pika enjoys. It's called 啤儿茶爽. Absolutely weird tasting. It's tea trying to emulate the taste of beer packaged in a plastic bottle, shaped like a beer bottle. Why try so hard?
TUN Day 7: 03/02/09 - Luang Prabang
This's the view from the window of the guesthouse. That's Nam Khan (Nam means river in Lao), which will join the Mekong River further downstream.
This is Nam Khan further downstream, where we would swim later.
We wanted to visit the Royal Palace Museum but being a Tuesday, it was closed. Tuesday is some big day for the royal family, so the theatre wasn't open either. I was rather listless that morning cause my left arm hurt, presumably from carrying my backpack. So i stuck those salon pas pads on my arm in an attempt to relieve the pain.
Seven-headed naga balustrades are a common feature.
Like Thailand, every eating place in Laos has lots of condiments.
This's the guesthouse where we stayed, off the main road. We went back coz we wanted to change into our swimming clothes.
Swimming in Nam Khan. This photo looks fuzzy because my cam was in a zip lock bag. My first swim in a river. We had to pay some money to cross the bridge so that we can reach the other side to swim, when we could actually have done it at the back of the guesthouse. Pretty dumb of us...
In the evening, we climbed Mount Phousi. Steps are horrible. I wasn't even halfway up and i felt tired.
Luang Prabang from the top of the hill.
The view was worth it. The top was pretty crowded coz everyone was like us, wanting to catch the sunset.
Sun setting behind the faraway mountain.
And we visited the night market at the foot of Mount Phousi after that. This was taken at the stall selling Lao whisky, or sticky rice wine. Pretty nice, it was very sweet and the alcohol content was high. 13%. There was another one with a alcohol content of 50%.
Walking Around
And this's the 油条... Yar, how could they cut it into two lidat, just so that it could fit on to this small plate that they have. There's only one way that doughsticks can be divided into two, and that is vertically downwards.
We shared a duck drumstick soup and it came with a glove! So 贴心 of them right...
After the food, we decided to walk around the area before heading back. Even though it was only 9+ at the time, it feels much later, like the feeling of 11+ back in Singapore. And we were pretty boliao. So boliao that bollards can become so entertaining for us.
Yar. I admit we are all rather 爱演 people...
Pika is always very open to my ideas that are out to sia suay her. I was experimenting with the continuous shot function on my cam and here is one of the pictures.
And it is without doubt that Pika is the most 爱演 among us.
TUN Day 6: 02/02/09 - Vientiane -> Luang Prabang
Baguette!
The road to Luang Prabang was full of never ending turns (and made us queasy) cause it's a mountain road. The view was spectect though. Thankfully, we took the bus in the day. I think the chances of accidents would be very high if we would traveling by night. The bus almost knocked into an incoming lorry at one turn, even though it was moving at a crawling speed. Apparently the driver was trying to be cautious, so cautious that at least one bus that departed some time after us managed to overtake us. The picture below was taken when the bus broke down at some point in time and the staff were repairing it while we got down to take a walk and piss among the bushes. Haven done that in a long, long time.
This was taken at night when we've checked into the guesthouse. We were trying to finish up the freelance work that we were doing for Oase. It was night by the time we finally reached Luang Prabang.
One Day in Wu Zhen (烏鎮)
More pics of old buildings and water.
Dyed cloths being dried. Actually i think they are just left there for tourists to take pictures but they looked nice. Traditional blue and white cloths.
Reflection in the still waters.
Us in the western part (西柵). Very colour-coordinated.

The Celebration at 1418
My Net Gain is -SGD200
The girl is Cici, id senior, and that's Honfay, nus aki graduate. Cool people. Pretty inspiring to talk to them. And that's Bloco, their furniture in competition in the open category. They won Honourable Mention and Outofstock's Naked Chair won the Grand Award.
I couldn't resist not updating this picture.
This was the chair that triumphed over Pogee for the fl!p challenge but it's nice enough lar.
That's me and Naoto Fukasawa, idol of many.
So in the end, Wisteria won the Merit Award and Pogee won the Silver Award. But there's no prize money for the Merit Award. So in the end, i only received 400bucks since Pogee won 800bucks but have to divide by two. So if i deduct away the cost of my plane tixs, which is 600bucks, my net gain is negative 200bucks! But of course that's just in terms of dollars and cents. I've gained much more in other areas.
